Biographical Info

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is the lead agency for the social sector.
Work and Income is a service of MSD. Contact us for help finding work, see current job vacancies and find out how we can support you if you’re on a low income or unemployed. Our assistance extends to employers and jobseekers, carers, families, students and seniors.

We help New Zealanders to be safe, strong and independent. We provide:
• Employment and recruitment services for employers
• Employment and training for jobseekers including workplace modifications, training and course allowances and support with unpaid work expenses.
• Help to be work ready including CV, cover letter, job interview support and work skills.
• Funding to community service providers.
• Student allowances and loans.
• NZ Superannuation services for seniors
• Housing support products and social housing assessments.
• Income support through Jobseeker Support, Sole Parent Support, Supported Living Payment and other benefits.
• Health and Disability supports and allowances
• Support for families including Orphan’s Benefit, Unsupported Child’s Benefit, Child Disability Allowance, help with uniforms or stationery and childcare assistance.
• Other financial assistance and one-off payments including Special Needs Grant, Funeral Grant, Residential Support Subsidy, winter energy payment and Community Services Card.
• Family Violence Intervention Programme (FVIP) – Work and Income’s response to clients experiencing family violence

Where? Available nationwide in-person, online and via phone
When? Work and Income service centres are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8.30am-5pm. Wednesday 9.30am-5pm.
Call our general enquiries or NZ Superannuation team:
• Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
• Saturday, 8am to 1pm.
MyMSD is available for you to apply and manage a lot of information including apply for a benefit, for superannuation and a food grant. You can also re-apply for a benefit, declare wages or income, change contact details and tell us if they are going overseas.
