Pūtea tautoko - Donate

How your koha/donation helps…

Thank you so, so much for heading to this page.

Through impressive community aroha, commitment and goodwill, volunteer work, donations and grants, the Retreat represents a concerted community drive for change. We are able to be whānau-centred and flexible in our approach, response, and time frames in providing tautoko/support on an individual and case by case basis.

Individual donors generously support the Retreat – as do grant-making bodies, kaupapa Māori organisations, business, and families. People offer gifts in kind – as diverse as home-baking and insurance. Everything that can be possibly sourced through donation, recycled or repurposed – always is. We even grow our own fruit, veggies and eggs!

Koha make our mahi possible. We have a small core team of staff, and the inevitable costs of operating and maintaining our site as a safe space. Nothing is wasted, and every dollar that is donated makes the difference. All donations over $5 are eligible for tax relief.

Our heartfelt thanks to ALL who express this community’s hospitality through their generosity.

Taranaki Retreat is a registered NZ Charity (number CC50829), established in 2014. This means that you can receive a third of your donation back, through the IRD. We are founded on a committed volunteer Trust Board and diligent financial oversight.

Our Bank Account details: Taranaki Retreat Trust: TSB 15-3953-0772409-00
If you’re making a donation to our account – THANK YOU! Please email us to let us know, so that we can arrange your donation receipt.

How much goes on taupaepae/administration?
Often charities have to carry a major administrative burden as an unavoidable cost. Not in our case. Our work is spectacularly supported by a Taranaki Chartered Accountancy Firm – Tandem Group.
As part of their incredible contribution to their community, Tandem Group donates all the taupaepae around the work of the Trust so that we can focus on what we do best, and so that all our fundraising goes into doing the mahi we’re here to do. So – any donation to the Retreat will not be soaked up in taupaepae costs. Just FYI!

Your tautoko/support makes all the difference

Here’s what some of those who have used our services had to say about it. Your koha save lives! Thank you – none of this would be possible without your generous tautoko.

“With everything that had happened in my life, I just wanted it all to end. The Retreat helped me stop the noise and love my whānau again. I was in a different space in my head, I was in a different place away from the bills.”

“They allowed me to breathe, they didn’t, you know, you guys didn’t force me into anything. You just let me take my own time, when I was ready and if I chose not to then that was okay and I didn’t feel any pressure what so ever. So, for me, you guys provided everything I needed. That’s how I’m still alive.”

“Definitely, feeling accepted with no judgement, you know, we don’t ask for these things to happen to us. Shit comes along in life and its too much for one person sometimes, so yeah, it was the safe environment, that was key. That made me feel I could trust, that made me feel like I am enough.”

“I think that a lot of people don’t want to get help because they just think of the cost associated with it – what the Retreat gives you comes with no strings and there isn’t a bill for helping you. It shows they genuinely care, it is not about making money out of you.”

“Yeah, the support I think is always there. I know that I can always go back, like I am going back on Wednesday because I do need it, the support is still there, it is just a text or a phone call away, whereas counselling is very like appointments orientated.”

“Because at the Retreat they listen to you and they don’t judge you. Okay even I found with my Counsellor half the time he was busy doing something else on his computer or, and he doesn’t really listen to what you’ve said.”

“I’ve never seen any other services that do this, that you can actually go and stay somewhere. That stay saved my life.”

“I sound like a broken record, the Retreat is needed. I can’t say thank you enough.”

“But I mean without the Retreat, I mean I can’t imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t met those people, I mean oh. I have no crystal ball in my life so I don’t know. And I’m not one to reach out but I did, you know. I was brought up to stand on your own two feet whether that’s given me resilience, I don’t know and I have always managed to sort things out on my own accord but at that particular moment, in my life I couldn’t and I realised I needed help and thank God that someone was there.”

“Yeah and that was the other thing too with the Retreat it was being sponsored so to speak, it wasn’t a financial burden. And that was a great incentive to me at the time because I was looking down the road of financial ruin to be honest with the separation process I remember.”

Shout a support – a beautiful way to make a real difference

Taranaki Retreat’s work is entirely community funded. Every day, people ask how they can help. Shouting a stay, or a feed, or a therapy session is the most beautiful way to make a difference.
“Shout a Stay” is like those cool “Give a Goat” schemes. Except, in this case, you are gifting a whānau or tangata whai ora in Aotearoa New Zealand your loving support. You won’t ever meet the whānau you supported with your gift – but they will never forget that someone, somewhere, made their support possible.

Shout a Counselling Session

Pay it forward for the next person in need of a support session with one of our counsellors.

Shout Kai Tonight at the Retreat

Shout a Meal: Feed the Entire Retreat for a Night! (includes meals for our tāngata whai ora / Guests, Whanāu and Visitors)

Shout Tonight's Accommodation

Shout a Bed and TLC: Pay it forward for tonight’s accommodation and care for one of our Retreat tangata whai ora / Guests tonight.

Shout A Month's Outreach Support

Pay for a whānau or tangata whai ora within our care to receive Outreach Support (visits at home or in the community) for the whole month ahead. Life-changing.

Shout Five Nights Of Residential Tautoko

A whānau or tangata whai ora within our care will receive FIVE NIGHTS of care and tautoko at our Residential Site. This will save lives.

Shout THE WORKS

You will be funding ten days and nights of care for a whole whānau (includes accommodation, hospitality, care, and support). Just imagine what this will achieve for them, their loved-ones, and our community!

Could you… Donate regularly to make all this possible?

We call our regular supporters our “Shout Out Supporters”.
We are the ‘allies’ of Taranaki Retreat. And we rely on one-another to make all this happen. We keep each-other posted, and we get together a couple of times a year to stay in touch, with a special event.

Our vision is “Space to Breathe” for anyone in our community needing some time out.  We don’t offer 5* hotel facilities but we do offer comfortable accommodation. and good, home-cooked food.

We keep it simple and affordable. Your crucial support helps us to provide the simple day-to-day essentials for families staying at the Retreat.

In any given month, we receive literally hundreds of fresh inquiries for support. There is much, much need.

Could you help? ….we really can’t thank you enough. All this is funded by our community – people like YOU.

Please fill in the simple form below, and we’ll be in touch within the next 24 hours.

Ngā mihi nui – THANK YOU.
