Great news! This is your ticket for Outreach Support with Taranaki Retreat

Kia ora – thank you for all that’s happened so far.
For taking the courageous step of sharing with us about your situation; for sharing your story; for helping us to understand what’s happening for you.

We want to be here for you to help you through all this… please read on to find out all you need to know about being part of our Outreach Support Programme.

So, what does Outreach Support look like?

Outreach is the name of our non-Residential set of programmes. Some of these happen in the community, and some in people’s homes. Others involve coming to our support sites.

Your Support Worker – A Listening Ear

Often our Outreach Support is about the beginning of a supportive relationship, in which one of our Care Team will arrange to meet up with you regularly (for example, once a fortnight).

Sometimes those visits take place at your home; some people prefer them to be at a venue such as a cafe in town.

Your Support Worker is trained to provide a listening ear, and a non-clinical approach to supporting you through all that you are facing.
This might be just so you can download the challenges of the last couple of weeks to a person who will understand.
Or – it might be that you will be working with that person towards addressing what we call the “Tasks of the Support” – goals that you will be working through together.
They will also be there to consider what other services in our community might help, right now.

Still keen? Cool.

Further down the page, we’ll explain the way to let us know if you’d like to hop on our List to be matched up with a Support Worker. We’ll then contact you as soon as we’re all ready for the support plan to begin 🙂

All our Support Work is done according to our Code of Conduct – and we take your privacy seriously. Your Support Worker will be supervised in their support work with you –
and anything that arises which is of concern for safety (yours, theirs, or anyones!) they will discuss with you – and may also share with the Staff Team at the Retreat.
They will keep brief notes on the Support meetings they have with you, for continuity, and to help keep a record of how things are going. We have seen some remarkable things change through this kind of peer one-on-one support.

Like any new beginning, it usually takes people a little while to settle in to the new Support relationship, and to build trust – but when you do, you may find that things start to shift –
with the space to find the answers, knowing that you are surrounded by a community of people who deeply care about your situation.

We understand how it can feel like a big leap – but ask yourself these questions now. If you find you can answer ‘Yes’ to all three of them, we reckon you’ll get a huge amount out of our Outreach Support.

Q. It sounds obvious – but think about it – am I really keen for some support and care?

Q. Sometimes people can feel like bailing – especially if there are challenges on the road ahead. Am I the kind of person to push on through that? It may not be easy, being helped to see the wood for the trees.

Q. Do I have a plan for what I most want to get out of the times I have with my Support Worker? Could I come up with one, by setting maybe two or three goals? Try jotting them down here…

Ready to go ahead? Nice.
