Incredible Kai

Live Music and Dancing

A Silent Auction

All at a stunning venue – Waimanako Support Hub.

When times are tough and life feels overwhelming, sometimes we put on a mask. We hide our struggles behind a smile, hoping no one notices what we’re carrying.

That’s why we’ve chosen a masquerade ball for our fundraiser – our message is simple: you don’t have to face things alone. It’s okay to take off your mask.

Our theme Light After Darkness reflects the heart of the mahi we do at Taranaki Retreat. We walk alongside people through difficult times, helping them find hope, connection, and some light through their darkest moments.

What is a Poke bowl?

Pronounced “Poh-kay” this dish originated in Hawaii, where poke means “to slice” or “cut into pieces”. Traditional preparation included dicing and marinating fresh, raw fish – usually tuna or salmon – and then layering this over a base of rice or greens and topping it with an array of fresh vegetables, sauces, and seasonings.

Poke bowls have evolved over the centuries, and now include influences from countries like Japan and China.

You can put almost anything on a Poke Bowl – the beauty of the Poke Bowl is that YOU get to make your own!!

Today Poke Bowls have toppings like edamame beans, grated carrot, sliced cucumber, avocado, kimchi, pickled ginger – some even have cubed pineapple or mango!
